Jake Madgwick Lawton

I am currently studying an MA in History and Politics at the University of Edinburgh and have a BTEC Level 3 in Business Administration.

What are your future plans and ambitions?

I am interested in roles in corporate responsibility and public affairs, as such work would allow me to work across the public, private and third sectors. This summer, during an internship with Lloyds Banking Group, I hope to get a greater sense of my career direction.

What has been the highlight of your life so far after leaving school?

After leaving school I lived and worked in London during which time I started a project with Arsenal Football Club and Holocaust survivors to combat antisemitism in football.

What is your favourite Teesdale memory?

Organising a debate between the Bishop Auckland 2015 parliamentary candidates at school.

Advice to my younger self...

Don’t be bothered by people underestimating you, you know what you’re capable of.

You can invite one person to a dinner party - who do you invite and why?

Hunter S. Thompson. His commentary on the events since his death would be both insightful and hilarious and he’d have some incredible stories. I’d be guaranteed a bizarre night.
