Katy Doumarapis (Bestford)

After leaving Teesdale Sixth Form, I completed lots of voluntary youth work whilst working as a restaurant manager at the Bowes Museum until I secured a job as a youth worker and activity leader with Durham County Council. Unfortunately jobs were cut due to funding, so I moved to Greece for two years before moving back to the UK to train as a primary teacher. I am currently working in Year 4 at Heathfield School in Darlington.

What university did you attend?

University of Nottingham

What qualifications did you achieve?

  • 2:1 BSc (Hons) Psychology
  • PGCE & QTS (Primary) – High Force Education

What are your future plans and ambitions?

I plan to move into higher management, but perhaps not headship – don’t know if I want all the extra stress that comes with it!

What has been the highlight of your life so far after leaving school?

Buying my house! It felt like such an achievement.

What is your favourite Teesdale memory?

I loved sixth form and I would do it all over again!

Advice to my younger self...

Don’t panic! Things will work out, there are so many different routes, don’t worry about taking a path less trodden.

You can invite one person to a dinner party - who do you invite and why?

Barack Obama - what a truly awesome man, I would love to have the chance to talk to him. My back up option would be Michael McIntyre because he just simply cracks me up.
