Teesdale GCSE revision lectures 2020

Teesdale School hosted the fourth annual GCSE revision lectures on Wednesday to prepare Year 11 history students for their upcoming GCSE mock exams.

As Year 11 students approach the examination season, and the focus shifts to intensive revision, students heard lectures from three Northumbria University academics on topics associated with their GCSE syllabus.

Dr Daniel Laqua spoke about the way in which the Weimar Republic's new democracy was defended by many Germans in the 1920s despite attempts to overthrow it from both the radical right and left. Dr Elsa Devienne lectured on the way in which American expansion into the West and the development of the frontier was achieved at the expense of Native Americans in the 19th century. Finally, Dr Katherine Butler explained how music and church choir performances changed after the English Reformation and what this meant when Elizabeth I concluded her Religious Settlement in 1559.

Teesdale School also welcomed Year 11 historians from other NELT schools to participate in the event - Bedlington Academy, Easington Academy, Hermitage Academy and The Academy at Shotton Hall.

We would like to thank Northumbria University staff for giving up their time and providing a very interesting afternoon for our students!
