RAF 100th anniversary

Last week, Mrs Hope's science students celebrated the 100th anniversary of the RAF, exploring their engineering achievements over the last 100 years.

Firstly, students studied codebreaking and security, using the Cold War and espionage as a hook to crack the code. They then enjoyed creating their own code wheel and explored the maths behind codebreaking, decrypting and encrypting messages.

Students then moved onto researching radar technology (a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the range, angle, or velocity of objects), exploring how to build structures to help design and build their own radar tower for a disaster relief camp.

Congratulations to Libby Robinson, Alisha Bell, Jasmine Walton and Izzy Yeadon as their winning tower supported the most mass!
