There were plenty of smiling faces in school this morning as Year 11 students collected their eagerly-awaited GCSE results.
We saw another year of superb results with an impressive 86% of students achieving a Grade 4 or above in maths and English. This is an important national measure and shows a 12% increase from the year our school was judged as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. This figure is also higher than in 2020 and 2021 when results were decided by teacher-assessed grades.
The GCSE results in 2020 and 2021 were significantly disrupted by the pandemic with grades decided by teacher assessment, meaning this year was the first time in three years that students sat their formal GCSE exams. Despite the difficulties and disruptions that they faced throughout Years 9 to 11, our students have risen to the challenge and we are immensely proud of them all!
Every student has achieved something significant and important to them that will help them on the next stage of their educational journey but here are special mentions for some exceptional performers.
- Evie Arundel achieved one Grade 9, six Grade 8s, one Grade 7, one Grade 6 and a Distinction*.
- Tiggy Johnson achieved 5 Grade 9s.
- Emily Lawson got two Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, four Grade 7s and a Distinction*.
- Jessica Lovatt achieved an impressive haul of seven Grade 9s, two Grade 7s and a Distinction*.
- Robbie Sammut opened his envelope to find three Grade 9s, three Grade 8s and four Grade 7s.
- Scarlett Slack achieve two Grade 9s, a Grade 8 and six Grade 7s.
We are delighted that many of our Year 11 students will be joining us in September to begin their sixth form studies.
Head of School, Dan Pilling, said: “Our students are a credit to themselves and their families and have shown resilience, tenacity, and talent throughout the last two years. Today we celebrate the everyday efforts and dedication that have enabled them to gain the results they have. This is what they should be most proud of, and it is this that will provide an important foundation for the rest of their lives. As significant and impressive as their performance in these exams are, it is who they are as people and how hard they have worked that is most worthy of praise.”
“These results are also a reflection of the hard work and commitment of staff throughout the lockdown period and beyond. Through some of the most difficult times we asked students to trust in their teachers and not worry about the shifting national picture that they could not control. That trust and the strength of relationships between our teachers and our students is also reflected in these results.”
