We'd like to celebrate two sporty sibling stars from our school!

Firstly we have Year 7's Toby who has a passion for sailing. He began sailing at Teesdale Sailing and Watersports Club 2 years ago and has never looked back.

His talent even won him a new boat in his first year to assist in helping him progress through the ranks. Toby has completed just one year of the RYA Regional Training groups – aimed at talented children in the sport that want to achieve that little bit more. The RYA groups are only open to a limited number of children and provide training opportunities over the winter months in all weather conditions! He is hoping for a selection place this next year too.

Toby’s successes to date include being selected to represent the Optimist GBR Junior Team at an international event in Ireland, unfortunately Covid-19 put a stop to travel. To be selected Toby had to finish in the top ranks within the Junior Oppie sailors in the whole of the country and is hoping for more international opportunities this next year.

Toby regularly travels around the UK to national events to gain experience of bigger events and grab opportunities that come along.  At present, he holds the title for the IOCA North East Regional Junior Champion which he won in the summer this year.

The talent in this family doesn't stop there, Toby's older brother in Year 10 is a budding rally driver! Anyone that has come across Oliver will know that cars are his passion.

Coming from a family who loves motorsport, Oliver had a Citroen C1 prepared for him to help the skill element of his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award. He had to complete several test events and practice at northern tracks until he was confident enough to take his BARS test. This was completed successfully at Chris Birkbeck’s Rally School in Saltburn.

Oliver has since completed his first event in the Junior F1000 Championship which he has joined partway through the year - moving up the results board quickly. He looks forward to competing in Wales in further events in both October and November before completing the whole championship in 2022.

Good luck to both of you!
