On 18 July, Mrs Hope and Miss Harris from the science department ran a workshop for Year 7 students. The workshop was designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers and encourage more students to study science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects and explore careers in science and engineering.
Based on the topic of 'energy', students learned more about the global energy challenge and the pros and cons of different energy technologies, as well as developing hands-on practical skills.
The day started with students learning about different types of energy and the search for alternatives to fossil fuels and ended with teamwork to build a solar powered car. This involved problem solving and improving car designs with a final race for the ultimate best engineered car!
Well done to all the students who took part.
