Students visit Northumbria University

Yesterday, our students visited Northumbria University to attend sessions on diversity and racial justice in the north east.

At the session, Dr Connal Parr and Professor Brian Ward spoke about issues and historical events including the South Shields riots in 1919.

Our sixth form students later led younger students in small group discussions about the themes the lecturers had highlighted.

The day came to a close with a session from Kay Greyson, a rap and hip-hop performer, who spoke about her own experiences and performed some of her music.

Dr Simon Henderson, Head of History and Sixth Form at Teesdale said: "This is another example of the rich and varied experiences available to our students and is part of our commitment to developing the minds and social conscience of our young people. For the sixth form students involved, leading the small group discussion was a really valuable opportunity and excellent preparation for seminar sessions at undergraduate level."
