There's a bit of a buzz in the English department at Teesdale School where more than £2000 worth of new reading books have arrived!
Head of English, Mrs Bissicks said: "There's a really good selection of books already, but we wanted to up stock up on books that would engage boys and reluctant readers."
The focus in school is on encouraging and promoting reading for pleasure, with plenty of small sets of books so that friends can read together in mini reading clubs.
There is a library club every Monday, Tuesday and Friday, where students can read and discuss their books.
One of the best ways to get children to read is to be a role model. Research demonstrates that adults who enjoy reading have children who enjoy reading.
"We're very happy for children to take a couple of identical books home so they can read alongside the grown-ups who look after them," said Mrs Bissicks. 'If you read 10 pages and you hate it, bring it back and choose a different book; we have more than enough!!"
