Teesdale poem postcard competition 2019

Congratulations to talented student, Blake Milroy, in Year 7 for winning our recent postcard competition by producing the beautiful piece of descriptive writing below.

Blake won the competition set by Head of English, Mrs Bissicks, and as a reward had his section of writing printed on our new English praise postcards.

An empty sky dawned over the mass of grassy land, preparing to be slapped by another gale. Clouds – brimming with water – gathered; the wind built to a powerful cacophony. Beyond the angry gusts of wind, wisps of cloud came together. Together to form a beautiful chandelier, crowning the atmosphere. Coming to join the scene, the sun rose powerfully behind the ominous clouds, adding to the kaleidoscopic picture in the sky, striving for centre-stage and wrestling the storm over the horizon. Then he shone.

                                                Shone.

                                                                        Shone …

… so brightly that all of Teesdale could witness his power.

Mrs Bissicks, Head of English, commented: "The standard of entries was extremely high but Blake's stood out because of the high-quality vocabulary and the varied, ambitious punctuation. The whole process has been a delight!"

Runners up: Robyn Hall from Year 7 and Charlotte Page, Celina Gibson and Tiggy Johnson all from Year 8.

Well done Blake, we look forward to reading more of your wonderful writing.
