Congratulations to Teesdale Sixth Form students Jake Knight and Cal Baker for scooping the top prize in the Rotary Interact Debating Competition on Saturday.
The two bright students represented Teesdale Sixth Form against teams from Barnard Castle School, Polam Hall School and Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College. The pair were triumphant and won their debate arguing in support of the motion that social media sites should endeavour to eliminate the publication of fake news.
All were impressed with the strong arguments displayed by Cal and Jake as they considered responses to questions from audience members and the judging panel. They also anticipated the counter-arguments of their opponents and were armed with clear examples and contrary views to rebut them successfully. The judging panel commented on the humility, humour, warmth and generosity that the boys exhibited during their debate.
Dr Henderson, Head of Sixth Form, commented: "They are a real credit to our sixth form and we are very proud of them!"
Well done boys!
