Students quiz local political candidates

Date Published:
Monday 09 December 2019

Today the sixth form common room was abuzz with political debate as the four candidates for the Bishop Auckland Constituency - Dehenna Davison of the Conservatives, Helen Goodman of Labour, Roy Georgeson of the Liberal Democrats and Nicholas Brown of the Brexit Party, faced questions from an audience of our sixth form students. The debate was recorded by BBC Radio Tees and is to be aired on their drive time programme from 5-6 pm.

The BBC crew and the political candidates were very positive about the event and full of praise for our students, commenting on how articulate and thoughtful they were.

A small number of Year 13 students are old enough to vote for the first time on Thursday but as many are still too young, a mock election will be held in the common room where everyone can cast a vote for the candidate who impressed them the most during the event.
