Last week, as part of our commemoration of Remembrance Day, students took part in assemblies to mark the 75th anniversary of three crucial WWII battles of '44; Monte Cassino, D-Day, and Kohima and Imphal.

The assemblies focussed on the collaboration of the many different nationalities who fought alongside each other to overcome the Axis powers. At Monte Cassino, an army of 240,000 with troops from six continents were victorious resulting in the liberation of Rome; at D-Day, 13 nations collaborated in Normandy; and at Kohima and Imphal one of the most ethnically diverse Armies in history would come together to win one of the most remarkable victories of the war.

Students learned about the bravery, service and sacrifices of the troops who fought, as well as the men and women who supported the efforts - who made uniforms, tested equipment, worked as resistance fighters and many more.
