Teesdale A Level Results Day 2018

We are delighted to announce the winners of the Mewhort Scholarships for 2018 - Scarlett Ballantine, Sadie Askwith, Holly Palarm, Evie Ridgway and Jenny Teward. The scholarship is a unique opportunity exclusive to sixth form students at Teesdale School who have achieved academic excellence and made a valuable contribution to the life of the school and wider community.

Scarlett Ballantine was awarded the top prize of £1,500 for each year of her undergraduate study. The panel of trustees were not only impressed by Scarlett’s academic achievements with an A* in sociology and a B in both history and psychology but were really blown away by her community activism and commitment to social justice in the north east. The Mewhort Trustees were captivated by Scarlett’s passion and social conscience and her willingness to help others. Scarlett intends to pursue her activism whilst studying sociology and politics at Newcastle University.

Sadie Askwith, Holly Palarm, Evie Ridgway and Jenny Teward were each awarded £1,000 per year of undergraduate study. Sadie will be going on to study fine art and art history at Manchester University, where she will be joined by Jenny who will be studying history and sociology. Holly will be moving to Lancaster to study business management and Evie is off to Bristol to pursue her interest in anthropology.

Oliver Smith, a member of the scholarship panel commented: “It is fantastic that the scholarships continue to reward the academic excellence of students in the sixth form and we were really impressed with all the candidates this year.”

The scholarships are just one of the many ways that Teesdale Sixth Form provides its students with top class opportunities. Recently, previous Mewhort Scholarship winners wrote to the trust to inform of their recent successes. Faye Pickering, Matthew Littlefair and Bethany Howson all graduated this year with first class honours degrees.

Congratulations!
