As well as pursuing academic excellence, Teesdale Sixth Form is proud that its students have a social conscience and aim to have a positive impact on the local community as well as supporting charity projects further afield. These efforts were led last year by the school’s Rotary Interact Club. Among other endeavours, they raised money for a school in Cancha Cancha Peru with a charity quiz night, designed and made button badges which they sold to provide funds to support a feminine hygiene project in Nepal and also collected supplies for a local food bank.
As a result of their efforts Teesdale School Rotary Interact Club has been nominated in the 2018 Teesdale Mercury Pride of Teesdale Awards in the category of Young Achievement. The club is one of three shortlisted nominees who have been chosen for their exceptional efforts. The awards event takes place on the evening of Wednesday November 7th 2018 at the Witham Hall in Barnard Castle. Voting takes place through the pages of the Teesdale Mercury this week and next and after that on the Teesdale Mercury website.
Dr Simon Henderson, Head of Sixth Form, said: “We are really pleased that the efforts of our young people have been recognised with this nomination. The sixth form students involved showed tremendous leadership qualities and a genuine commitment to helping those less fortunate than themselves. They continue to be a great source of inspiration for those of us fortunate enough to work with them and their generosity of spirit means that our community is rightly very proud of them.”
