TEACHER OF SCIENCE

Nestled in Barnard Castle in the spectacular Teesdale countryside and imprinted with the historic values of the Dales and our close-knit community, Teesdale School is a place where traditional values of kindness, respect and hard work take precedence. Within 30 minutes of both Darlington and Durham and just over an hour from York and Newcastle, our idyllic yet convenient location affords our staff an enviable quality of life.

Our school teaches 550 children across Key Stages 3 and 4 and a small sixth form. Our small size means that as a teacher here you can really get to know your students; knowing who they are; their aspirations, ideas, talents and dreams, bringing out the best in them and helping to champion their ambitions and give them a great start in life.

We recently joined the North East Learning Trust, a successful multi-academy trust led by The Academy at Shotton Hall, which has two consecutive outstanding grades, an outstanding SCITT and three national leaders of education. This partnership has begun with a clear focus on our school becoming truly outstanding.

We are looking to appoint a Teacher of Science with either biology or physics specialisms with effect from September 2018.

As a Teacher of Science you will help our young people to develop their knowledge of the scientific method and the fundamental principles of science at Key Stage 3 as well as inspiring them to opt for the separate science courses at Key Stage 4. Your specialist subject knowledge of biology or physics will take our students to the very top tier of understanding and help to make the department a flagship for excellent science teaching. Your hard work and inspiring influence will bring in large numbers of students to the Teesdale Sixth Form and, with your guidance, the Key Stage 5 science outcomes will be among the strongest in the country.

The successful candidate will:

  • have a very high level of understanding of biology or physics with a passion to pass this on to others;
  • be a creative, imaginative, innovative and experimental classroom practitioner;
  • be committed to further professional development;
  • be emotionally intelligent with a growth mindset;
  • have potential to lead, inspire and develop colleagues and students;
  • have high expectations of their self and others.
