Last week, 30 excited students enjoyed a fun-filled two days in London’s Theatreland.

The trip started with a visit to the costume and design treasures at the Victoria and Albert Museum, only a short walk in the glorious sunshine from the group’s hotel in Hyde Park.

Next on the agenda was a short sightseeing trip through the city, a meal in the West End and then, the highlight of the day – a stunning performance of 'Les Miserables' that left some of the group in tears.

The following day, the group headed to the Globe Theatre for an amazing drama workshop and a behind-the-scenes tour of the theatre. Students were also lucky enough to see a rehearsal of the 'jig' – a dance traditionally performed at the end of Shakespeare’s plays with the whole cast on stage: a rare treat! The trip was then perfectly rounded off with the wonderful ‘Phantom of the Opera’.

Everyone had a great time and trip organiser, Julie Bissicks, Head of English at Teesdale school, commented: “This is the second year running that we’ve been able to take students on this trip, full of rich cultural opportunities. We’re hoping to be able to take twice as many students next year for twice as much fun!”
