Thirty excited students are eagerly preparing for the English department's trip to London which will take place in June.

On the first day, the students, from Years 8 to 11, will visit the Victora and Albert Museum before heading off to London’s Theatreland to see a performance of the very popular ‘Les Miserables’, which is based on a novel by the French writer, Victor Hugo.

The trip organiser, Head of English, Mrs Bissicks, said: "Last year’s trip was a whistle-stop 24-hour trip to London but we’ve been very fortunate this year and have been able to book overnight accommodation close to Kensington Palace so that we can pack in even more activities than last year! I’m delighted that there has been so much interest from our students in this visit. Barnard Castle is a wonderful place to grow up but it’s very important to me that we give them a taste of what life is like elsewhere in the UK and encourage them to sample the rich variety of cultural activities on offer."

Day two will see the children take part in a theatre workshop and behind the scenes tour of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on the Southbank, before heading off for the second theatre performance of the trip – another musical based on a French novel, this time by Gaston Leroux – the fabulous ‘Phantom of the Opera’.
