Students visit Durham University

Our A level history students went to Durham University on Wednesday to take part in a 'fostering aspirations' programme to promote and encourage students to study history at university.

Small groups of sixth form students were paired up with Durham undergraduates and postgraduates to engage in discussions about historical topics and to chat about life at university. The second session will take place next Wednesday afternoon and will build upon this work, with a more in-depth discussion around the source material and historiographical debates.

Head of History and Sixth Form, Dr Simon Henderson, said “Our students had a great time discussing the historical issues ranging from forced assimilation of Native Americans to what can be learned from Anglo-Saxon chronicles. It is really important that they have these opportunities to stretch themselves academically and to experience what undergraduate study is all about. They are looking forward to going back for the second session next week.”
