Last week, the Teesdale Rotary Interact group, led by our sixth form students, held a bake sale to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity. Students were also invited to wear an item of yellow clothing on World Mental Health Day to support the '#HelloYellow' campaign ran by the charity Young Minds.
Students purchased biscuits and cakes made by our sixth form students and together raised over £120 to support projects aiming to increase awareness of, and develop treatments for, mental health conditions.
Chair of the Interact group, Year 13 student Bethany Windle said: "With all the challenges and stresses of modern life it is important that we recognise the impact this can have on everyone's mental health. The pressures of exams and social media fall particularly strongly on children and it is important that we fight the stigma attached to mental health and help people to realise that it is ok to talk about problems and that there is support there when people need it."
Dr Henderson commented: "This is another example of the wonderful work our sixth form students do to help improve the lives of those around them. The Interact group has been nominated for a Pride of Teesdale Award this year and they are continuing their excellent work."
