Teesdale Students can't stop tapping their feet to the awe-inspiring music of 'An American in Paris' by musical greats, George and Ira Gershwin, following the English Department trip to London last week.
Combining ballet, jazz, tap and a whole range of musical numbers from 'I've got rhythm' to 'They can't take that away from me', this high-intensity, technicolor production at the Dominion Theatre thrilled students from start to stunning end when they joined the rest of the audience in a standing ovation for the cast.
The students, from Years 9 and 10, also visited Shakespeare's Globe, where they enjoyed a tour of the theatre. They learned about how the building influenced the way Shakespeare wrote, seeing for themselves how the players and audience would have interacted and understanding the constraints and opportunities such a space offers to a writer.
An exciting and informative drama workshop followed; students enthusiastically experimented with lines from the play, skilfully guided by one of the Globe's expert education practitioners.
They even managed to squeeze in a visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum and a short sight-seeing tour on this 24-hour, whirlwind trip!
The students loved every minute of the experience and, far from being exhausted, are keen to repeat it as soon as possible.
'S understandable!
