Future medical students in Years 10 to 12 began a coaching and mentoring programme with Dr Bunny Forsyth on Wednesday 29 March.
Any students who had shown an interest in a future career in medicine or the medical or veterinary sciences were invited to take part in the session with Dr Forsyth, a Consultant Learning Disabilities Psychiatrist who works for the NHS in Middlesbrough. She spent the afternoon with twenty students discussing the important ‘soft skills’ needed to succeed as well as the obvious high academic standards in science based subjects.
The key focus was on how to build a portfolio of experience that enables students to display that they have the skills of resilience, reflection, communication and empathy. Dr Forsyth plans to meet the group regularly in order to give students the best chance of reaching their career aspirations.
