After winning a place in the Euroscola competition, a group of sixth formers from Teesdale visited Strasbourg last week to debate at the European Parliament.

The group were rewarded with the trip to Strasbourg after researching and producing a script about their ideas on the implications of the Brexit vote for Britain.

Over 500 students from 28 countries also attended the Euroscola day to discuss issues such as development aid, the future of the EU, migration and integration, and youth employment.

The team from Teesdale consisted of Ella Blackburn, Ben Greaves, Evie Ridgway, Scarlett Ballantine, Lucy Blackburn, Sadie Askwith and Jenny Teward. Sadie and Scarlett both asked a question in the hemicycle, and Ella introduced the UK group at the Youth Parliament, all of which was live streamed on the day.

The students and teachers who attended the event found it to be a very rewarding experience and were all touched by the fact that the day's activities started with a minute's silence out of respect for the recent attack in London.

Well done to everyone involved for a magnificent achievement and experience!
