Teesdale School and Sixth Form hosted a special visitor yesterday as part of our history lectures series. Professor Richard Rex, Professor of Reformation History and Religious Studies at Queen's College, Cambridge University was kind enough to take time out from his busy schedule to enlighten an audience of eager students on the early Stuart period and American race relations and national identity.

Professor Rex argued that the English Civil War was essentially caused by religious divisions in the United Kingdom. Professor Rex's insights were accompanied by a lecture from our Head of History, Dr Henderson, who showed how racial identity and American nationalism have been and continue to be inextricably linked - all topics that are central to our A level syllabus here at Teesdale.

A great time was had by all with over 180 students in attendance, including from three other schools, Shotton Hall, Easington Academy and Longfield Academy. Professor Rex was struck by how engaged and interested the students were and impressed at the thoughtful and informed questions they posed to him.

Further information about studying the TRPR degree course in the Faculty of Divinity, where Richard Rex is the Professor of Reformation History, can be found at http://www.divinity.cam.ac.uk/study-here

Students applying to Cambridge apply not only for a degree course but also for a college. You can find out about Professor Rex's college, Queens' College, here:
