This morning, we welcomed our Year 13 students back into sixth form to collect their highly-anticipated A level results. There were plenty of smiles and even some tears of joy as students opened their envelopes and unlocked their next steps in life.

Our students have worked tremendously hard over the last two years, staying long after the school day, not only to work on their studies, but also to contribute to the extra-curricular life of Teesdale Sixth Form. As proud as we are of their achievements in this set of A level results, we are even more proud of who they have become and what their achievements represent for them as a group of young adults.

These results, which show a 100% pass rate across all subjects once again, further validate the reality that students studying with us in our sixth form make more progress compared with their peers nationally. On average students achieved a third of a grade higher than the national field.

As always, there were some individual standout performances. While we’re proud to highlight these stories below, these are just a glimpse of the many achievements across the entire cohort. Every student has achieved significantly during their time with us.

  • Blake M achieved straight As in maths, chemistry and biology and will study medicine at Glasgow University.
  • Rory H achieved an A* in maths, A in chemistry and physics and a B in further maths and will be going on to study mathematical physics at Edinburgh University.
  • Leah H achieved an A* in sociology, a distinction in health and social care and a C in English language and will be advancing to Salford University to study English. Leah, is a story of what can be achieved with sheer determination and hard work. Almost every day during Year 13 she arrived at school at 8 and did not leave until after 5. This dedication really paid off as her results mean she achieved over a grade above students nationally with similar prior attainment to her.

Most importantly, 100% of students who applied will now go on to study at university, or begin an apprenticeship programme. A third of students will be studying at the prestigious Russell Group universities.

Head of Sixth Form, Dr Simon Henderson, said: “The aim of our Sixth Form is to promote academic excellence at the heart of the Dale and provide an education for post 16 students that allows them to successfully progress to the next stage of their lives, with no limits on what that progress looks like for each individual. The fact that this group of students have done that, whilst also enriching the lives of those around them and sharing their talents freely, is what makes us so proud of them.”
