Our Year 12 chemists took part in the Royal Society of Chemistry's annual Schools' Analyst Competition. The students were tasked with taking on the role of analytical chemists, assisting the Department of Housing in evaluating the suitability of an old industrial area for building new houses. The students had a range of soil samples to analyse and, if found not to be suitable, they were asked to advise the department on how to make the area safe for development. Students took part in a wide range of practical activities that gave them a taste of what it is like to be an analytical chemist in the world of work. Everyone did a great job and really enjoyed the day.
