We are proud to announce our Mewhort scholars for 2023.
Our school is incredibly fortunate to be able to offer the Mewhort scholarship opportunity to seven lucky Year 13 students each year who meet the criteria of academic excellence and community engagement. This year was a particularly outstanding one with the trustees wishing to pay tribute to the students who applied but did not receive the scholarships. They were a credit to themselves and performed outstandingly in their interviews. In another year they may have achieved one of the awards, but the competition was so fierce this time they just missed out.
Sam C was awarded the top prize of £1500 each year of study during his undergraduate degree. Sam will be studying Geography at Lancaster with a year abroad and he hopes to study glaciers in Iceland. Sam impressed the trustees, not only with his academic excellence, but also his willingness to give of himself in the service of others. He is a real ambassador for all that Teesdale stands for and an inspiration to the community around him.
The six other recipients of scholarships worth £1000 a year for the 3 years of study at university were Tom D, Theo C, Niamh L, Keira S, Elizabeth S and Jasmine W.
Head of School, Anna Cleckner, said: “This is the highlight of the school year for me. Hearing the hopes and dreams these young people have for the future and seeing how much they have grown in their time with us, to become well rounded, articulate and socially active individuals is a real breath of fresh air. They are an inspiration.”
Head of Sixth Form, Dr Henderson, added: “We continue to be immensely fortunate to be able to offer this scholarship to our Year 13 students. It is a unique and valuable opportunity that sets us apart from all other sixth forms in the region.”
