On Friday evening we took part in 'Light Up Barnard Castle', celebrating community and the River Tees that connects us all through the dale. It was a fantastic community event, with hundreds of lanterns being paraded by local primary schools and community groups.
Prior to the parade our sixth form artists had taken part in some workshops with visiting artist, Gemma McColl, which built upon their first workshop where they created willow fish structures. During the second session, students covered their structures with tissue paper before going on to add finer details with coloured paper, Ready to be shown off in the parade!
We were proud to parade our showstopping fish lanterns and had so many comments on how fantastic they looked. The event was made extra special as it was also Neeve’s 18th birthday and she was nominated as chief lantern parader!
A big shoutout to our fantastic paraders Matthew, Neeve, Lucy, Abbie and Alysscia.
