Students in Years 10 and 11 have sat the Intermediate Maths challenge, a national maths problem solving competition entered by around 20,000 students nationally.
Elsbeth Carr is just one of our star performers. She was awarded the certificate for best in Year 11 and qualified for the follow on round named the "Pink Kangaroo". She gave a fantastic performance and achieved a certificate of Merit, which is awarded to the top 25% of qualifiers and places her inside the top 1% of students nationally.
Jake Knight was awarded the certificate for best in school and qualified for the elite follow on round known as the "Hamilton Olympiad". The Hamilton Olympiad comprises of 6 extremely challenging long form answer questions that contestants have 2 hours to answer. Jake scored a very impressive total of 47 marks out of 60, which earned him a certificate of distinction and places him inside the top 200 students nationally.
Mr Blackett who teaches both Jake and Elsbeth said, “I am extremely proud of the achievements of all of the students who achieved certificates, especially so for Jake and Elsbeth. This success allows the students to see how outstanding their abilities are when ranked alongside the best in the country. I hope it inspires their love of mathematics and shows that they have the ability to take their maths education as far as the wish.”
