Sixth Form opportunities

At Teesdale Sixth Form we understand that your future success depends not only on excellent academic achievement, but also on the range of skills you develop and the wider opportunities you engage with. That's why we've developed a broad package of activities that will help you to get the most out of your sixth form experience.

Leadership

Whatever your future plans, being able to lead and motivate people will make you valuable and successful. We make the most of our main school students to provide opportunities to develop these vital leadership skills by actively encouraging sixth formers to mentor and support our younger students.

Our Sixth Form Council can be a forum to enhance your CV and put your negotiating and organisational skills to the test. Those with a particular passion can run for head boy or head girl and work alongside the senior team to shape the future direction of the sixth form.

Each subject nominates a ‘lead learner’; a passionate person who is an advocate for their subject. They play a key role in the promotion and development of a subject area. Each lead learner has a role unique to the subject - we’ll play to your strengths but also push you out of your comfort zone. Becoming a lead learner provides outstanding personal development opportunities and some excellent perks like supporting younger students on overseas trips and with geography field work or taking part in the biology Olympiad.

I can only thank you again for the generosity of my Mewhort Scholarship. It has been a valuable contribution towards my academic and extra-curricular life at Oxford. I am having a wonderful time and look forward to my next two years here.
Amy Holguin, archaeology and anthropology, Hertford College, Oxford

Internships

Our bespoke range of internships offer students invaluable real life work experience and mentoring that make a discernible difference to their university applications. With internships in accountancy, design, engineering, medicine, veterinary medicine, journalism, education and more, Teesdale students are able to access high quality experiences that help them on the road to success.

Enrichment

Variety is the spice of life and this is something we take very seriously at Teesdale and whatever your interests, you'll have some amazing opportunities to follow your passions. From the Regional Engineering Challenge (we are the current holders of this prize, by the way), foreign exchanges, the annual ski trip, Sixth Form talent show or one of the many other trips, events and visits that support our curriculum areas - you won't be disappointed. We think you'd have to work incredibly hard to find a more comprehensive programme of activities and opportunities.

I’ve really enjoyed developing my leadership skills coaching the Year 7 football team... and we’re still unbeaten!
